Resume Writing Workshop
Your resume is often your first chance to make a positive impression on a prospective employer. Whether this is your first time writing a resume, or you are looking for tips to update and tailor your resume for a new opportunity, this workshop will provide you with relevant and practical information. We will also lay the foundation of resume-making by first discussing how to mindful of your career vision. Join us to learn more about what to include on your resume, how to format it and how to make it stand out.
Interviewing Strategies
Our interview skills workshop is designed to help you prepare for job or graduate school interviews. This workshop covers what to do before, during and after an interview. We provide techniques and strategies for preparing for interviews, answering interview questions and behaving confidently and professionally during your interview.
Handshake and Job Search Strategies
Do you want to connect with employers, research job and internship opportunities, and even chat with other students who have already had your dream job or internship? Every Ohio State student can explore job and internship opportunities through Handshake. You will learn how to make the most out of Handshake to find a part time job, internship, or full-time job. This workshop will empower you to research potential employers, and to use Handshake to contact them. You will also learn how to use Handshake for career exploration and to find out what other students with similar majors and interests have done.
Transferable Skills
On‑campus jobs do far more than fill your schedule - they help you build the skills employers look for across every industry. This workshop helps you identify the transferable strengths you’re already developing and shows you how to talk about them confidently in interviews, resumes, and grad school applications.
LinkedIn and Job Search Strategies
Do you have a LinkedIn account? Are you using LinkedIn to its fullest potential? Wondering how to stand out to employers and alumni online? This workshop has been designed to help you to learn how to leverage LinkedIn as a powerful tool for professional networking, connecting with Ohio State Alumni, exploring career pathways and searching for internships and job openings. This interactive session will guide you in creating a strong profile that communicates your professional identity, highlights your skills and evolves with your career goals. Open to undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral participants across all disciplines.
Professional Networking Essentials
Professional networking can be an overwhelming process, and may be challenging to determine when, where and how to begin. This interactive workshop will equip you with practical strategies to build and maintain meaningful connections at any stage of your academic journey. The session will explore multiple types of networking including informational interviews, career fairs, volunteering, immersion experiences, professional association membership and much more. You will leave the workshop with fresh ideas and approaches for creating a relevant network in support of your short-term career readiness and long-term professional success.
Career Fair Prep
This fast-paced, interactive session helps you walk into any career fair with confidence. We’ll break down what actually happens at a fair, how to prepare your resume and introduction, what employers are looking for, and how to make a strong impression in just a few minutes. You will learn how to research organizations, navigate the event with a plan, start conversations that feel natural, and follow up in ways that keep the momentum going. You’ll leave with practical tips, sample questions to ask, and a clear strategy for making the most of your next career fair.
Converting Vitas to Resumes and Career Fair Tips
Are you struggling to translate your academic CV (vita) into a resume that stands out to employers? This workshop is designed to help transform detailed CVs into concise, targeted resumes that effectively communicate skills and experience in today’s job market. In addition, this workshop provides essential tips for navigating career fairs with confidence. Learn how to prepare your elevator pitch, research employers, make strong first impressions, and follow up professionally to build meaningful connections.
